So starting on May 30th, I will begin traveling the world in search of education, excitement, and adventure. I'm lucky enough to be traveling to about 5 different countries and for those concerned about my safety or just wondering what the hell exists beyond those ivy gates I plan on keeping you informed!
My first stop is an about 24 hour long layover in Amsterdam (what kind of trouble could I possibly get in to there?...), but actually I am a gigantic nerd and hope to go to the Hague where I can chill at the Peace Palace and see where the Hague conventions were signed! Ahhh the joys of international law...
And then I'm off to Egypt for 8 weeks of studying at the American University in Cairo, hopefully interning with a refugee agency, doing lots of regional traveling, NOT getting seduced by Arabian men, and hopefully exploring the Nile and checking out the Pyramids.
After Egypt, where I will have hopefully learned enough Arabic to navigate the Middle East on my own, I am taking a bus, yes a bus, to Israel! It will be a gruesome 16 hour ride and I will probably be strip searched at the border (fun fun) but eventually I will make it to the Holy Lands. After visiting some good friends there I'm off to the West Bank for art therapy workshops with the children of the Palestinian refugee camps and hopefully reconnecting with my friends from last summer.
And finally, if I have still survived it all, I will take the dreaded bus back to Egypt and fly to Mombassa, Kenya (with a short layover in Kharthoum, Sudan) to see my grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles and rediscover my African roots. ;)
Stay tuned for more updates!
Zehra,
It sounds like you're going to have an amazing summer. I can't wait to read about it.
Please be sure to post lots of pictures!
